What if.... destiny and free will are intertwined?

The argument of whether our future is defined by destiny or the choices we make with free will is an age-old one. Some want to believe that there is a higher being pulling the strings, that we are merely players in a predetermined story, following rules and plotlines that we don't know exist, while some believe that we make our own story, one that is in progress rather than one that is already written.

But I personally hold with the few who believe that they are intertwined.  What if both are right? What if we are part of a story already written, but we have the power to keep editing that first crude draft as we go on, smoothening out the knots in the threads of our life, with our choices still being our own? If those choices change our path, the thread of our life is unraveled and rewoven to fit our new path, our new destiny, and those gnarled knots are fixed with all the choices we make till the thread is cut.

No one can know for sure what is going on, about who pulls our strings in our short lives or whether there is someone doing that at all, but I choose to believe that destiny and free will can work in peaceful coexistence, that we are not puppets to an all-powerful being, but equals in a way to them.
